Vintage Children’s Gas Masks
This lot comprises two children’s gas masks, likely dating from the World War II era. One mask appears to be constructed with a rubberized canvas facepiece and features a filter canister attached. The second mask is similarly constructed, though the rubber has perished significantly, revealing the underlying structure. These masks would have been intended for use by children during air raids, providing a degree of protection against gas attacks.
Condition and Collectibility
Both masks exhibit signs of age and wear consistent with their historical period. The perished rubber on one mask indicates deterioration over time, while the other mask shows cracking and general wear. Despite their condition, these masks remain fascinating relics of wartime civil defence efforts and would be of interest to collectors of military memorabilia, historical artefacts, or those interested in the social history of WWII.
