Canal Barge Brass Plaques
This collection comprises eight brass plaques, each detailing a canal and its associated information. The plaques represent various canals, including the Grand Union Canal (dated 1929) and the Kennet & Avon Canal (dated 1810). These plaques would have originally been affixed to canal barges, serving as identification and historical markers of the waterways they traversed. The varying designs and dates offer a glimpse into the evolution of Britain’s canal system.
Condition & Collectibility
The plaques exhibit signs of age and use, with patination and wear consistent with their history. While not pristine, this wear adds to their authenticity and character. These plaques are highly sought after by collectors of canal memorabilia, narrowboat enthusiasts, and those interested in industrial history. They represent a tangible link to a bygone era of canal transport and offer a unique decorative element for a home or collection.
