National Fire Service Helmet – Area 34
This is a World War Two National Fire Service (NFS) tin helmet, designated for Area 34, East London. The helmet features a distinctive dome shape constructed from pressed steel, with a red band around the circumference and a badge displaying the NFS emblem. These helmets were issued to firefighters and auxiliary personnel during the Blitz and throughout the war, providing essential head protection during dangerous rescue and firefighting operations.
Condition and Collectibility
This helmet exhibits signs of wear consistent with its age and wartime use, including surface corrosion and paint loss. Despite this, it remains a fascinating piece of British history, offering a tangible connection to the bravery and resilience of the NFS during a critical period. Collectors of military memorabilia, firefighting history, and WWII artifacts will find this helmet a valuable addition to their collections.
