Richard III Silver Groat

This is a silver groat issued during the reign of Richard III (1483-1485). The coin features a portrait of the king on the obverse, with the inscription surrounding it. The reverse displays a long cross with trefoils and a central shield. These groats were a standard denomination in England during the late medieval period, and represent a tangible link to a turbulent period in English history.

Condition and Collectibility

The coin exhibits signs of wear consistent with its age and circulation. The details are softened, and there are some areas of corrosion. Despite this, it remains a desirable piece for collectors of English hammered coinage, particularly those interested in the reign of Richard III. Its historical significance and relative scarcity make it a valuable addition to any collection.
