A Melancholy Consolation
This is a hand-coloured political cartoon created by Thomas McLean in 1832. The print depicts a satirical scene, likely commenting on the political climate of the time. The style is characteristic of early 19th-century British caricature, employing exaggerated features and symbolic imagery to convey a pointed message. The print is a fascinating example of political commentary through visual art.
Condition and Collectibility
The print shows signs of age and wear consistent with its age, including some foxing and minor imperfections. Despite this, the hand-colouring remains vibrant, and the print retains its visual impact. This piece would be of interest to collectors of British political cartoons, Victorian era prints, or historical ephemera, offering a glimpse into the social and political landscape of 19th-century Britain.
