Antique Messenger Duplex No. 2 Oil Lamp

This is an antique Messenger Duplex No. 2 oil lamp, featuring a copper and glass construction. The lamp exhibits classic Victorian-era design elements, with a brass collar and a clear glass reservoir. The Duplex design incorporates a unique double-wick burner, intended to provide a brighter and more consistent flame than earlier single-wick lamps. This particular model is a testament to the ingenuity of 19th-century lighting technology.

Condition and Collectibility

The lamp presents with signs consistent with age and use. The glass reservoir is intact, though may exhibit minor imperfections. The brass components show patina and wear, adding to the lamp’s character. This lamp would be of interest to collectors of antique lighting, kerosene lamps, or Victorian-era artifacts, and would make a unique decorative piece.
