Papermakers Arms Sign
This is a large, double-sided hanging pub sign depicting scenes related to papermaking. The sign features figures engaged in the process of creating paper, showcasing a traditional craft. The artwork is likely painted on metal or a similar durable material, intended for outdoor display and advertising a public house named “Papermakers Arms”. The sign’s design and style suggest it dates from the mid to late 20th century, potentially earlier, and would have been a prominent feature of a pub’s exterior.
Condition and Collectibility
The sign exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with outdoor display and use. There is evidence of paint loss, surface rust, and general weathering, which contribute to its vintage character. Despite these imperfections, the sign remains a visually striking and historically interesting piece. Collectors of pub signs, advertising memorabilia, or items related to industrial history would find this a desirable addition to their collection, offering a glimpse into the heritage of papermaking and public house culture.
