Introduction
This is an antique oil painting on panel depicting St. George on horseback in the act of slaying a dragon. The painting exhibits a naive, folk art style, with vibrant, though faded, colours and expressive brushwork. The composition features St. George as a central figure, clad in armour and raising a sword, while a dragon lies defeated beneath his horse. A smaller figure is visible in the background, possibly representing a princess or witness to the event.
Condition
The painting shows considerable age and wear, with cracking and flaking of the paint surface, and some loss of pigment. The panel itself exhibits signs of warping and age-related deterioration. Despite its condition, the painting retains a captivating charm and historical significance, appealing to collectors of religious art, folk art, or antique paintings. The painting’s aged appearance adds to its character and authenticity.
