Collection Overview
This lot comprises a collection of metal detecting finds, prominently featuring a number of George III gaming tokens. These tokens, dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, were commonly used in establishments offering games of chance as a substitute for currency. The collection also includes various coins, potentially spanning different periods, and a small copper alloy object of uncertain function, adding to the intrigue for collectors.
Condition & Collectibility
The items present varying degrees of wear and patina consistent with age and burial. The tokens exhibit details commensurate with their use and time spent underground, with some showing clear markings and others more worn. This collection will appeal to collectors of British tokens, numismatists, and those interested in social history, offering a glimpse into the pastimes and economic practices of the Georgian era.
