Trench Art Brass Lighter

This is a fascinating example of trench art, fashioned from brass, likely during or shortly after the First World War. The lighter consists of three separate pieces: a cylindrical body, a removable striker, and a base. The body features a small wheel mechanism for ignition, typical of petrol-based lighters of the period. The craftsmanship suggests it was made by a soldier using available materials, transforming spent brass into a functional and personal item.

Condition and Collectibility

The lighter shows signs of age and use, with some tarnishing and wear to the brass. The striker is present, but the lighter has not been tested for functionality. This piece is highly desirable for collectors of trench art and militaria, offering a tangible connection to the experiences of soldiers during wartime. Its handmade nature and historical context make it a unique and intriguing addition to any collection.
