Princess Mary Christmas Tin 1914

This is a Princess Mary Christmas Tin dating from 1914, a gift presented to British soldiers and sailors during the First World War. Commissioned by Princess Mary, daughter of King George V, over 350,000 of these tins were distributed to the troops at Christmas 1914. The tin is rectangular, constructed from embossed steel, and decorated with a central portrait of Princess Mary surrounded by a wreath. The sides depict national emblems representing the Allied nations – France, Belgium, Russia, Italy, Japan, and Serbia – signifying the united front against the Central Powers.

Condition and Collectibility

This tin exhibits signs of age and use consistent with its historical context. There is surface wear, some minor corrosion, and evidence of handling, which adds to its authenticity and character. As a poignant reminder of wartime sentiment and a tangible piece of history, this Princess Mary Christmas Tin is highly sought after by collectors of militaria, First World War memorabilia, and royal collectibles. It represents a touching gesture of support for the troops and a fascinating glimpse into the past.
