This is a large antique brass bushel measure, inscribed “Borough of Chepping Wycombe”. Manufactured by De Grave, Short & Co. Ltd of London, the measure features robust handles and is marked with a crown and “GvR” along with the number “376” and a date stamp of 1936. The measure would have been used for the official measurement of dry goods, and its size and construction suggest it was intended for commercial use.

Condition and Collectibility

The bushel measure shows signs of age and use, with some patina and wear consistent with its age. It appears to be largely original, retaining its maker’s marks and inscriptions. This piece would be of interest to collectors of antique weights and measures, brassware, or those with an interest in the history of Chepping Wycombe and British commerce.
