A Rare WW1 Princess Mary Christmas Tin 1914

This embossed brass tin dates to Christmas 1914 and was a gift from Princess Mary to the British soldiers and sailors fighting in World War One. The rectangular tin features embossed decoration including a central portrait of Princess Mary within a laurel wreath, and the names of France, Belgium, Russia, and Italy around the edges. The inscription “Christmas 1914” is clearly visible. These tins were intended to contain a selection of small gifts, including cigarettes, tobacco, and sweets, to provide comfort to the troops during the harsh winter months.

Condition and Collectibility

This tin shows signs of age and use, consistent with its wartime history. There is some wear to the brass, and minor dents and scratches are present. Despite this, the embossed details remain remarkably clear and legible. This tin is a highly sought-after collectible, representing a poignant piece of British history and a symbol of support for the troops during the First World War. It would be a valuable addition to any collection of militaria or historical ephemera.
