Victorian Stoneware Flagon
This is a salt-glazed stoneware flagon produced by Doulton Lambeth Ltd for Thomas Wethered & Sons, Marlow. The flagon bears the impressed mark “Doulton Lambeth Ltd” along with the maker’s name and location. The design is typical of Victorian stoneware, showcasing a robust form and a textured, salt-glazed finish. The flagon’s shape and size suggest it was intended for holding liquids, likely ale or beer, and would have been a common sight in pubs and breweries during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Condition and Collectibility
This flagon presents with expected wear commensurate with its age and use. There are some minor imperfections to the glaze and possible small chips, consistent with a piece of this type and era. Despite these minor flaws, the flagon remains a desirable piece for collectors of Doulton Lambeth stoneware, pub memorabilia, or historical brewery items. Its clear markings and relatively good condition make it a noteworthy example of Victorian industrial pottery.
