Princess Mary Christmas Gift Fund Box

This is a Princess Mary Christmas Gift Fund box, presented to troops during the First World War in 1914. The box is constructed from brass and features embossed decoration, including a central cartouche with a profile portrait. The box contains a selection of items, including a silver plated cigar cutter, a length of ribbon, and other small personal effects likely added by the original recipient. These boxes were a gesture of goodwill from Princess Mary, daughter of King George V, to the British soldiers and sailors serving overseas.

Condition and Collectibility

The box exhibits signs of age and use, consistent with its wartime history. The brass has some surface wear and patina, and the contents show varying degrees of condition. The inclusion of additional items alongside the original ribbon and cigar cutter adds to the box’s personal history and appeal. This is a desirable piece for collectors of militaria, First World War memorabilia, or royal ephemera, offering a tangible connection to a significant historical period.
