Introduction

This lot comprises two 18th-century carved wooden figures depicting musicians. Each figure is rendered in a folk art style, showcasing detailed carving and a charmingly naive aesthetic. One figure holds a stringed instrument, likely a lute or similar period instrument, while the other appears to be playing a wind instrument. The figures stand on simple bases, adding to their rustic appeal and suggesting they were originally part of a larger ensemble or display.

Condition

These figures exhibit signs of age and wear consistent with their estimated age. There are minor losses and imperfections to the carving, and the wood surface shows a lovely patina developed over centuries. Despite these signs of age, the figures remain structurally sound and retain their character. Collectors will appreciate the authenticity and historical significance of these rare examples of 18th-century folk art, offering a glimpse into the musical culture of the period.
