Historical Significance
This is a 1934 “Tag der Arbeit” (Day of Labour) tinnie, a political badge produced in Nazi Germany. The circular badge features a stylized depiction of a worker’s head in profile, superimposed over a cogwheel and a swastika-emblazoned emblem. The inscription “TAG DER ARBEIT” encircles the central design, and the date “1934” is prominently displayed below. These tinnies were distributed to commemorate the annual Labour Day celebrations, serving as a form of propaganda and a symbol of the Nazi regime’s purported support for the working class.
Condition and Collectibility
The tinnie exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with its historical period. There are minor surface scratches and some loss of the original finish, but the design remains largely intact and legible. While not pristine, this piece offers a tangible connection to a significant, albeit controversial, period in history. It would be of interest to collectors of political memorabilia, Third Reich artifacts, or those interested in the history of labour movements and propaganda.
