This lot is a Post Office Commemorative Postal Order for £10, issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation, with the dates 1953-2003 printed prominently across the header. The order is presented with its counterfoil, which is printed with “Ten Pounds” and a portrait within a circular roundel bearing the legend “The Queen’s Coronation”. The main body of the order is printed with “The Queen’s Coronation 1953-2003 Commemorative Postal Order”, a portrait of the Queen, a ceremonial scene, a “Please pay” line with “Ten Pounds”, a “Received signature” line, and a postage stamps box with the note that postage stamps can be added to a maximum value of 80 pence. The face value of £10 and the words “Not negotiable” appear on the right-hand side. The reference number CR 032033 is printed at the foot of both the order and counterfoil.
Presentation, Postmarks and Collector Interest
The postal order is held in a clear protective sleeve and is fronted by a printed card bearing the title “1953 – 2003 Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation” and the Post Office logo. The order bears two circular postmarks reading “Windsor Berks” with the date “02 JU 03” and “Post Office”. Items of this type appeal to collectors of royal commemorative ephemera, Post Office issues and anniversary material from the early 2000s. The combination of the counterfoil, the printed card and the postmarks gives the lot a clear link to the 2003 anniversary.
