Ornate Adam Style White Fireplace Surround
This lot is an ornate fireplace surround in the Adam style, finished in white. It is offered as a fireplace surround for buyers seeking a period-inspired architectural feature for a interior.
The upper frieze is decorated in relief with a run of drapery swags, each with tasselled ends, alternating with a central urn with a flame finial and a bowl-shaped body. Circular rosettes flank the frieze at either end. The moulded shelf sits above a flat frieze, and the opening is framed by a border of ovoid motifs along the top and jambs. The jambs stand on plinth blocks. The Adam style, associated with neoclassical design, is evident in the restrained swags, urns and rosettes.
Condition and Originality
The surround presents in a white painted finish, with the relief decoration visible across the frieze and jambs. The photograph shows no obvious damage to the moulded detail or the plinths. The item is offered as seen in the photograph, and buyers are encouraged to inspect it in person or request further images before bidding. Its crisp relief work and classical motifs may appeal to collectors of architectural salvage and to buyers restoring or designing period interiors who are looking for a statement piece.
