Introduction

This is a traditional African bongo drum, crafted with a gourd body and stretched animal hide. The drum features a distinctive conical shape and is secured with woven fibre cords, typical of instruments found in various African cultures. The drum’s construction suggests it was made using traditional techniques, with the hide tightly stretched to create a resonant sound when struck.

Condition

This drum exhibits signs of age and use, with wear and discoloration to the hide and some minor fraying of the cords. While showing its age, the drum appears structurally sound. This piece would be of interest to collectors of ethnographic musical instruments, or those seeking a unique decorative item with cultural significance.
