British Army Dress Sword
This is a British Army dress sword, likely dating from the Victorian or early 20th century. The sword features a single-edged blade, designed for ceremonial use rather than combat. The hilt is of a typical pattern for the period, with a wire-bound grip and a decorative pommel and guard. It is important to note that this sword is presented with a scabbard that is not original to the sword.
Condition and Collectibility
The sword shows signs of age and wear, consistent with its likely age and use. While the blade retains some polish, there are areas of patina and minor surface imperfections. The hilt shows wear to the grip and some loss of gilt to the fittings. Despite these imperfections, this sword would be of interest to collectors of military edged weapons, particularly those specialising in British Army swords. The incorrect scabbard may appeal to a restorer or someone seeking a project.
