Antique Art Deco Brass Bulldog or Pug Desk Ornament
This antique brass desk ornament is described as a bulldog or pug and is offered as an art deco piece, dating from circa 1925. The seated figure is cast in brass with a pronounced, frilled ruff framing the head, a bow tie at the neck, and a softly modelled face. The body is shown upright with its forelegs straight and its paws neatly defined. The piece is stamped JJ, as noted in the cataloguing description, and is presented as a small decorative object suited to a desk, shelf or cabinet.
Condition and Collectability
The ornament shows an age-appropriate surface, with a warm golden tone to the raised areas and greenish patina visible in the recesses of the ruff, the neck and the rear of the body. Light wear consistent with its age can be seen across the high points of the casting. As an unrestored example, the surface patina forms part of its character. Collectors of early twentieth-century brass figures and art deco decorative objects may appreciate its sculptural form, its maker’s stamp and its compact, display-friendly scale.
