An Antique Cast Iron Animal Trap
This lot is an antique cast iron animal trap, offered as a single item. It is presented with its attached chain and ring, which remain fixed to the mechanism.
The trap has a broad, dark iron body with a flat, rectangular pan plate and a pair of hinged jaw arms. A ring at the top of the frame and a looped anchor point near the base help to secure the chain. The construction is robust and heavily formed, typical of hand-finished iron traps of its type. No maker’s name or marks are visible, so the manufacturer is unknown.
Condition and Collector Interest
The trap shows an overall dark, uneven patina and surface corrosion across the iron, consistent with age and long-term exposure. There are signs of general wear to the jaws, pan and chain links. The item appears original in form, with no obvious replacement parts, though it has not been restored. It is not described as complete or working. Buyers interested in rural history, country life or vintage metalwork may find it appealing as a display piece or a study example of early animal trapping equipment.
