Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Grate with Brass Urn Finials
This antique cast iron fireplace grate measures 22 inches wide and is offered as a fireside piece with a decorative arched fire back. The fire back is decorated in relief with a central urn, flaming finial and draped swags, each finished with ribbon ties. The grate has a row of vertical bars along its base and a front fender with a wrought iron style handle. Its upright posts are topped with brass urn finials, and the picket-style front rail carries a series of raised studs. The piece is cast iron throughout, with the brass finials and studs providing contrast with the darker metal.
Condition, Originality and Collector Appeal
This grate shows overall surface rust and wear consistent with age and use, with some flaking to the iron and dulling to the brass finials. The original cast decoration on the fire back and the form of the grate remain clearly visible.
