Antique Cast Iron Balance Scales
These are a set of antique balance scales constructed from cast iron. The scales feature a pivoting beam with pans suspended from either end, designed for accurate weighing. The robust cast iron construction suggests these scales were intended for heavy-duty use, possibly in a commercial or industrial setting, or for an apothecary. The design is classic and functional, reflecting the engineering of the period.
Condition and Collectibility
The scales exhibit signs of age and use, with surface wear and possible corrosion consistent with their age. The pans and beam appear to be present, though functionality is not assessed. These scales would be of interest to collectors of antique tools, scientific instruments, or those interested in the history of measurement. They also make a unique and decorative display piece.
