A Pair of Antique English Georgian Brass Candlesticks
This lot comprises a pair of antique English Georgian brass candlesticks, each with a gun barrel column and a square base. The two candlesticks are offered together as a matched pair, presenting a classic form of early English domestic metalware.
Each candlestick has a slender, cylindrical column with a gun barrel form, rising from a stepped square base. A ring of moulded detail sits on the lower part of the column, and each column terminates in a flared sconce to hold the candle. The square bases are stepped, with a raised inner panel and a plain, understated profile that reflects the Georgian taste for restrained form.
Condition and Collector Interest
Both candlesticks show wear consistent with their age, including surface marks, handling marks and an even patina across the brass. Green residue is visible within the socket of one sconce. The condition is typical of antique brass of this period and the surface has not been polished to a bright finish. Buyers interested in early English brass, Georgian domestic metalware or matched antique pairs may find these candlesticks of particular appeal, and they would be suitable for display or for adding to a collection of antique candlesticks.
