Description

This is an antique cast iron fireplace back, featuring a prominent fleur de lis motif, indicative of the Prince of Wales design. The backplate is ornately shaped with a curved top and detailed relief work. This piece would have originally been positioned at the rear of a fireplace, protecting the wall from heat and adding a decorative element to the hearth.

Condition

The fireplace back exhibits significant signs of age and wear, with extensive surface rust and oxidation consistent with its antique status. The original finish has been lost over time, revealing the cast iron beneath. Despite its weathered condition, the piece retains its structural integrity and would be of interest to collectors of antique fireplace accessories or those seeking a rustic, characterful element for a restoration project.
