Antique Fob Seal
This antique fob seal comprises a small, rectangular silver box and a corresponding seal. The box, designed to open and close with a hinged lid, once contained materials for creating impressions, likely wax for sealing letters or documents. The accompanying seal features an intaglio carved design, intended to be pressed into the softened wax, leaving a unique identifying mark. The fob is complete with a ring for attachment to a pocket watch chain or similar.
Condition
The fob seal shows signs of age and use, with some wear to the silver and patina consistent with its age. The interior of the box contains remnants of what was once a pad for use with the seal, and the seal itself shows some wear to the carved design. Despite this, the fob seal remains a fascinating piece of history, appealing to collectors of antique jewellery, seals, or historical ephemera.
