Antique French Annunciation Plaque on Velvet Mount

This antique French religious plaque depicts the Annunciation in a raised metal relief, set on a wooden board covered in blue velvet. The scene shows the angel Gabriel kneeling before the Virgin Mary, who is shown with her hands raised in prayer, with a lily beside them. The relief is set within a sinuous, scrolled cartouche and carries the inscription 21 MAI 1905 on a lower panel.

Condition and Collectable Appeal

The relief retains its detailed modelling, and the scrolled border and inscription panel are clearly defined. The wooden surround and blue velvet backing show general age-related wear, including fading, rubbing and a small chip to one corner of the wood. The piece remains in its original velvet-mounted presentation. Its dated inscription, devotional subject and period frame make it of interest to collectors of French religious memorabilia, First Communion keepsakes and early twentieth-century decorative metalwork.
