Antique Georgian Corner Washstand
This antique Georgian corner washstand is a two-tier piece with a curved gallery back and a bowed front. It is offered as a traditional item of bedroom furniture from the Georgian period.
The washstand is built with a raised gallery back that wraps around the corner, and its upper top is shaped to follow the angle of the room. The upper surface has a large central circular aperture, with two smaller circular apertures to the side, reflecting its original function. A lower undertier sits beneath on slender, splayed legs, and a small brass knob is fitted to a drawer in the lower frame. The frame is finished in a dark, richly toned wood with a moulded edge running along the front.
Condition and Collectability
The washstand shows general signs of age and use consistent with its period, including surface marks, scuffs and wear to the top. Some dark staining and small marks are visible across the surfaces, and the original finish appears to be largely intact. Its originality and period character are part of its appeal for collectors of antique furniture, and it would suit a buyer looking for an authentic Georgian piece for a period home or a restoration project.
