Antique Grapnel Anchor
This is an antique grapnel anchor, a traditional type of anchor featuring multiple flukes designed to catch on the seabed. Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this grapnel is constructed from wrought iron and exhibits a foldable design for ease of storage and deployment. The multiple tines would have been used to snag onto rocks, weeds, or the seabed in shallower waters, making it ideal for small boats, dinghies, or as a salvage tool.
Condition
The anchor displays significant signs of age and use, with considerable corrosion and patina consistent with prolonged exposure to marine environments. While the folding mechanism appears functional, it may be stiff or require attention. This piece presents a unique opportunity for collectors of nautical antiques, maritime history enthusiasts, or those seeking a distinctive decorative item with authentic character.
