Victorian Illustrated Holy Bible
This is a beautifully bound, antique Holy Bible, dated 1897, and identified as a “Family Bible”. The cover features intricate embossed detailing in brown, with gilded accents and corner embellishments. The spine displays raised bands and further gilded ornamentation. The frontispiece reveals the bible was presented to Minnie Banbury on April 1st, 1897, and the title page details it as “The National Illustrated Family Bible” with commentaries by Scott and Henry, and edited by Rev. John Eadie.
Condition and Collectibility
This bible shows signs of age and wear consistent with its 127-year history. The cover exhibits scuffing and some loss of gilding, and the spine shows wear. Despite these imperfections, the bible remains a fascinating piece of Victorian ephemera, appealing to collectors of antique books, religious artifacts, and family history items. The presentation inscription adds a personal touch, making it a unique and desirable item.
