Antique Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regiment Campaign Basket
This antique campaign basket is believed to have belonged to Sgt Timms of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regiment. The basket features a woven body, covered in a canvas and leather exterior, with a wooden frame and carrying handle. The exterior is stencilled with details including the name “Timms S.T.”, “OXF BUCKS”, and a regimental number “BA/S/8156”, along with “Witley Bks Brentwood, Essex”. This style of basket was designed for portability and durability during military campaigns, offering a practical means of transporting personal belongings.
Condition and Collectibility
The basket exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with its antique status. The canvas and leather show wear, with some fading and minor damage. The woven interior shows signs of use. Despite its age, the basket remains structurally sound and presents a fascinating piece of military history. This basket would be of interest to collectors of militaria, particularly those focused on regimental items and campaign furniture, and offers a unique glimpse into the life of a soldier during the era.
