Antique Printers Blocks and Hyundai Commemorative Plaque
This lot comprises a collection of antique printers blocks together with a Hyundai shipbuilding commemorative plaque presented in its original case. The printers blocks are a mixed group of metal relief plates, several of copper and some of zinc or similar metal, with a number of engraved designs and lettering. Subjects include bicycles, motor vehicles and heraldic or decorative motifs, alongside text panels such as “Motor Car” and “Relocation”. A wooden mounted printing block with a metal plate is also included. The commemorative plaque is a brass plate engraved with the word “Hyundai”, a ship and a decorative border, and bears the inscription “To Commemorate Your Visit”. It is housed in a blue velvet-lined case with a red and blue ribbon.
Condition and Collector Interest
The printers blocks show age-related wear, with visible patina, tarnish and surface marks typical of metal printing plates of this period. Some pieces are irregular in outline and show edge wear. The wooden mounted block shows scuffing and the metal plate has surface marks. The commemorative plaque shows general tarnish and handling marks, and the velvet case shows general wear. Collectors of printing history, transport imagery and industrial memorabilia may find this group of interest, as the mixed subjects and the combination of trade printing material with a shipbuilding commemorative piece offer a varied collection for display or study.
