Antique Pince-Nez Spectacles

This lot comprises two pairs of antique pince-nez spectacles, each complete with its original fitted case. Pince-nez, meaning “pinch nose” in French, were a popular style of glasses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by their lack of sidearms and reliance on a bridge that pinched the nose to stay in place. The frames appear to be constructed from a brass or gilded metal, and the lenses are of a simple, clear glass type. The cases are lined with velvet, offering protection for the delicate spectacles.

Condition and Collectibility

These spectacles exhibit signs consistent with age and use, including some patina to the metal frames and minor wear to the velvet lining of the cases. While the optical quality of the lenses is not assessed, these pieces are offered as collectible items, representing a fascinating glimpse into the history of eyewear. Collectors of antique optical instruments or Victorian-era accessories may find these spectacles a desirable addition to their collections, showcasing a bygone era of style and craftsmanship.
