An Antique Two-Drawer Telescope
This antique two-drawer telescope is a handheld brass and wood instrument of the traditional draw-tube type. It has a turned wooden body with a warm reddish-brown finish, finished at each end with a brass collar, and a brass draw tube that slides out from the wooden barrel to extend its length. The design reflects the practical, portable optics favoured by travellers, sailors and country gentlemen in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. No maker’s name or marks are visible in the photographs, so the manufacturer and exact date are unconfirmed.
Condition and Originality
The wooden body shows an attractive, even patina with scattered scratches and handling marks, consistent with age and regular use. The brass collars and draw tube have softened to a mellow golden colour, with some tarnish and light surface marks around the eyepiece end. The brass sections appear to be original to the piece, and the overall character remains intact. Buyers seeking an authentic period instrument for display, study or the collection of antique optical items may appreciate its honest age, unrestored surfaces and traditional construction.

Items are sold on a “sold as seen” basis, electrical items etc are untested unless stated otherwise in the title of the items in question. We have a viewing day on Saturday 10am-3pm if you are unsure about an item from photos. #### As of 1/10/2021 we will be implementing a 7 day collection rule – items must be collected within 7 days unless an agreement is arranged in the event of instances such as being away on holiday, medical reasons etc. Any lots that are not collected within 7 days will be liable to a storage charge of £1.20 per day.
