Antique Victorian Copper and Brass Horse Hair Singeing Tool
This antique Victorian horse hair singeing tool combines a copper head with a brass shaft. The tool is designed for singeing horse hair, a task associated with the grooming and preparation of horses in the Victorian period. The lower end of the shaft is finished with a turned ball and a suspension ring, and the handle is a plain tube of brass. The fan-shaped copper head is embossed with a fluted, shell-like pattern radiating from its base. A small pivoting fitting sits at the junction between the brass shaft and the copper head, and the two metals are joined by a collar.
Condition and Collectability
The tool shows the expected age-related wear for a Victorian piece. The copper head has darkened in places, with green discolouration visible along its outer edge, and the brass shaft has a mellowed, uneven patina. Some surface marks and minor wear are consistent with long use. The copper head and the embossed fluting remain clearly defined, and the collar and ball finial appear to be original to the piece. This tool will appeal to collectors of Victorian stable and equestrian equipment, as well as to those interested in antique copper and brass tools with decorative detailing.

Items are sold on a “sold as seen” basis, electrical items etc are untested unless stated otherwise in the title of the items in question. We have a viewing day on Saturday 10am-3pm if you are unsure about an item from photos. #### As of 1/10/2021 we will be implementing a 7 day collection rule – items must be collected within 7 days unless an agreement is arranged in the event of instances such as being away on holiday, medical reasons etc. Any lots that are not collected within 7 days will be liable to a storage charge of £1.20 per day.
