ARP Handbell Introduction

This is an ARP (Air Raid Precautions) handbell, likely dating from the Second World War period. Constructed from brass, this bell would have been used as part of the civil defence warning system, alerting personnel and the public to air raids. The bell’s robust construction and simple design reflect its functional purpose during wartime.

ARP Handbell Condition

The bell exhibits signs of age and use, consistent with its likely wartime service. The brass shows patina and wear, and there is no handle present. Despite this, the bell remains a fascinating and evocative piece of history, appealing to collectors of wartime memorabilia and those interested in civil defence equipment.
