Two Boxed Dinky Toys and Dinky Supertoys Lorries

This lot comprises two boxed die-cast lorries by Dinky Toys, the first being the Big Bedford Lorry, model 522. The box for the 522 is printed with the Dinky Toys name, “Made in England by Meccano Ltd.”, and an illustration of the lorry. The model itself has a blue cab and a dark blue body with a open-sided dropside load bed, mounted on grey tyres with blue hubs. The second box is a Dinky Supertoys example, showing a flatbed lorry with an illustration of a forward-control cab on the front panel. The model in this box has a blue cab and chassis with a red flatbed body and blue hubs to the wheels, and the box is partly torn at one end.

Box Condition and Collector Interest

Both boxes show clear signs of age and handling. The 522 box has general wear to its edges and surfaces with some marks to the printed panels, while the Supertoys box has tearing and loss to its end flap and a split along one side. The Big Bedford model sits in a lightly soiled inner tray and shows visible wear to its paintwork, with a length of string tied to the cab. The Supertoys model shows wear to its paintwork and tyres. Pairing these two Dinky boxes together gives the collector an interesting grouping of 1950s-era commercial vehicles from one of Britain’s best-known die-cast makers.
