Trench Art Shell Dishes
These are two repurposed brass shell casing dishes, likely dating from the First World War period, crafted as trench art. Each dish features a hexagonal base supporting a flared, cup-like form. The brass has been skillfully worked to create these unique pieces, demonstrating the resourcefulness and artistry of soldiers during wartime. These dishes would have been made in the field, using available materials, and represent a tangible link to the experiences of those who served.
Condition and Collectibility
The dishes exhibit signs of age and wear consistent with their history and construction. There are surface marks, patina, and minor imperfections to the brass, which add to their character and authenticity. These are not pristine items, but rather pieces that bear the marks of their creation and use. Collectors of military memorabilia, trench art, or brassware will find these dishes to be a fascinating and evocative addition to their collections.
