Antique Canton Famile Rose Bowl
This is a late 19th-century Chinese porcelain bowl, decorated in the Canton Famile Rose pattern. The bowl features a vibrant and intricate design, with alternating panels of scenes depicting figures in landscapes and floral arrangements. The use of pinks, greens, and golds is characteristic of the Famile Rose palette, and the detailed hand-painted scenes showcase the skill of the artisan. The bowl’s shape and decoration suggest it was made for the export market, catering to Western tastes for exotic and colourful ceramics.
Condition and Collectibility
This antique bowl shows signs of age and use, consistent with its estimated age. There are no significant chips or cracks, though minor wear to the glaze is present. The bowl’s vibrant colours and intricate design make it a desirable piece for collectors of Chinese porcelain, particularly those interested in export wares. The Canton pattern is highly sought after, and this bowl represents a beautiful example of the artistry and craftsmanship of the period.
