Cardew Farmhouse Fireplace Limited Edition Teapot
This is a limited edition novelty teapot by Cardew Design, modelled as a farmhouse fireplace and bearing a handwritten signature to the base reading “P Cardew”. The body is formed as a stone-effect fireplace with a brick-style surround, a painted fish lying across the mantelshelf and logs arranged in the grate. A copper-coloured kettle and companion set stand to one side of the hearth. The mantelshelf holds a carriage clock, a small framed picture, a trophy, a spaniel figure, a folded newspaper and a bottle. The spout rises from the left-hand side and the handle curves from the right, and the piece is finished in glazed earthenware with the moulded detail picked out in colour.
Condition and Collector Interest
The teapot shows some light surface marks and wear to the underside, consistent with age and handling. The base carries the “Farmhouse Fireplace” and Cardew Design backstamp, which marks the piece as a limited edition from a run of 5000, and the handwritten “P Cardew” signature in gold adds a personal provenance that will appeal to collectors of the designer. Novelty teapots of this kind are sought after for their detail and their connection to a named maker, and a signed, numbered example will be of particular interest to those building a collection of Cardew Design ceramics.
