Chessell Art Pottery Bowl
This is a striking art pottery bowl, signed ‘SF’ to the base, likely a piece from the Chessell Pottery. The bowl is designed as a miniature water garden, featuring a textured interior with raised, organic forms resembling lily pads or aquatic plants. The exterior is a smooth, pale grey, providing a subtle contrast to the detailed interior. This piece exemplifies the studio pottery movement, showcasing a unique and artistic approach to functional ceramics.
Condition and Collectability
The bowl presents well, with signs consistent with age and use. There are some minor imperfections to the glaze and surface, which are typical of handmade pottery and add to its character. This bowl would be a desirable addition to a collection of British studio pottery, particularly for those interested in the work of Chessell Pottery or pieces with a water garden theme. Its unique design and artistic merit make it a captivating piece for display.
