Clifford o Troll Oil on Board Seascape of Sailing Boats at Dusk
This framed oil on board seascape by Clifford o Troll depicts sailing boats at dusk on a calm tidal expanse. A dark-hulled vessel with rigging and a mast sits in the foreground, with a second, smaller boat visible further back near the shoreline. The palette is restrained, with soft greys and browns across the water and a pale yellow glow along the horizon and the reflective surface of the sea. Low, dark silhouettes of trees and land form the distant shore, and two birds rest on the water at the lower right. The work is signed to the lower left and is presented in a timber frame with a gilt-toned outer edge and a white inner slip.
Condition and Presentation
The frame shows general signs of age and handling, with light wear to the gilt-toned edge. No further condition details have been provided in the description. Works of this type, with a moody dusk palette and an identified artist’s signature, often appeal to collectors of British seascape painting and to buyers looking for decorative pieces with a calm, atmospheric character. Interested bidders are encouraged to view the lot in person or request further details before the sale.
