Vintage Court Screw Introduction
This is a vintage court screw, a type of corkscrew popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This example features handles crafted from both pearl and horn, indicative of a higher-quality piece. The worm, or helical wire, is designed to penetrate corks with a twisting motion, and the handle provides leverage for extraction. Court screws were often carried as gentleman’s accessories, reflecting a period of refined dining and social gatherings.
Vintage Court Screw Condition
This court screw shows signs consistent with age and use. The pearl and horn handles exhibit wear and patina, adding to its character. While the worm appears intact, its functionality is not guaranteed. This piece would be of interest to collectors of antique tools, corkscrews, or those interested in Victorian-era dining accessories.
