Twelve Royal Commemorative Crowns in Individual Cases
This lot comprises twelve commemorative coins, each housed in its own clear plastic case. The pieces relate to several royal occasions, including the Royal Wedding of July 29th 1981, which commemorates Lady Diana Spencer, the 80th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on August 4th 1980, and the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Crown, dated 1952 to 1977. Several cases are inscribed with the wording H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Her Majesty, and one piece bears the inscription National Westminster Bank Limited. The designs feature portrait and equestrian motifs, with lettering around the rims.
Condition and Collector Interest
The coins appear to be in generally good order within their holders, although several pieces show visible surface toning and discolouration, with some areas displaying blue and grey tones. Each coin is presented in its own case, which may be of interest to collectors who value original presentation. Commemorative crowns from these royal events are popular with collectors of twentieth-century British commemoratives, and a group of twelve offered together gives a useful overview of the designs issued around these occasions.
