Cut Glass Claret Jug with Silverplate Collar

This cut glass claret jug features a silverplate collar and is offered as a decorative and collectable dining piece. Claret jugs of this form were traditionally used for serving wine at the table, and this example combines a glass vessel with a metal fitting in a classic arrangement.

The body is cut with a close diamond pattern that catches the light across the bulbous lower section and tapers into a slender neck. The silverplate collar sits at the top of the neck and holds a hinged lid surmounted by a knop finial, with a pouring lip to one side. A scrolled metal handle curves from the collar down to the base of the neck, completing the traditional silhouette of the form.

Condition and Collectability

The glass body appears clear, and no obvious chips or cracks are apparent to the naked eye. The silverplate collar and lid show tarnish and some surface wear consistent with age, and the handle and lid should be examined closely by the buyer. Pieces of this type often appeal to collectors of table glass and silverplate, as well as those seeking a traditional item for a dining room or drinks cabinet.
