A Varied Collection of Dutch Delft Blue and White Plates
This lot brings together a varied group of Dutch Delft style blue and white china, comprising approximately twenty plates, dishes, ashtrays and saucers. The decoration follows the traditional Delft palette of cobalt blue on a white glazed ground, and the subjects are typically Dutch: working windmills beside canals and polders, a traditionally dressed woman with yoke buckets, a church street scene, and a seated figure in period costume. Several pieces feature scalloped or floral-moulded borders, while others have decorative rims and shaped ashtray handles. Some of the larger chargers are decorated in the classic landscape manner, while the smaller plates and saucers offer a range of miniature scenes and floral designs.
Condition, Originality and Collector Appeal
Condition has not been formally assessed, and the photograph shows the pieces arranged together on a table, so prospective buyers are advised to inspect the lot carefully and consider the descriptions as a guide only. Some pieces appear to show general signs of age and handling, and the glaze and painting should be examined closely in person. The mix of sizes, subjects and makers’ styles makes this an appealing lot for collectors of Dutch ceramics, those building a themed display of windmill and canal scenes, or buyers looking to start a Delft collection, with plenty of variety to rotate on a dresser or wall.
