A Collection of Dutch Delft Blue Ceramic Tiles
This lot offers a group of around fifteen Dutch Delft blue ceramic tiles and related pieces, displayed together on a blue table in our saleroom. The collection draws on the traditional Delftware style, with hand-painted cobalt-blue scenes on a white tin-glazed ground. The tiles show classic Dutch landscapes, including windmills beside canals, sailing barges on still water, and farmhouses under open skies. Several pieces are framed in brass with decorative corners, and others are mounted on a wooden serving board or a small cast iron pan-shaped trivet. Other notable pieces include a tile reading “With Love From Holland” with a pair of painted clogs, a tile bearing a Dutch-language proverb, and a commemorative tile from a 1970s international congress held in Den Haag. Together they make a varied and charming souvenir grouping.
Condition, Originality and Collector Appeal
The tiles appear to be largely original, with the painted designs showing the crisp detail typical of Delft-style decoration. The brass-framed trivets show some age-related tarnish to their edges, and the wooden board shows light surface wear consistent with use. At the time of cataloguing, no obvious major chips or cracks were visible in the photographs, but buyers are encouraged to inspect the lot in person or request further images before bidding. The group will appeal to collectors of Dutch souvenir ceramics, enthusiasts of blue and white tin-glazed pottery, and anyone looking to build a themed display for a kitchen, hallway or study. The variety of sizes, scenes and mounts also makes it an attractive opportunity to start or expand a Delft tile collection.
