A Set of Three Dutch Delft Blue Lidded Urns
This lot offers a set of three Dutch Delft style blue and white lidded urns, displayed side by side on a blue cloth. The three pieces are of matching design, making them a useful group for a mantelpiece, sideboard or cabinet. Their traditional decoration will appeal to anyone who enjoys classic Dutch ceramics.
The urns have baluster bodies with a shaped, panelled form and a cream-coloured glaze. Each is decorated in cobalt blue with a landscape scene showing a church tower, a rural dwelling and trees, framed by stylised scrollwork and floral borders. The domed, faceted lids are decorated with flowers and birds, and each is finished with a blue finial. The lattice bands beneath the lids add further detail. The glaze shows a fine crackle, which is typical of this style of ceramic. The pieces are not marked with a maker’s name, so they are offered as Dutch Delft style rather than with a confirmed manufacturer.
Condition and Collectability
All three urns are presented with their lids in place, and the surfaces show the traditional crackle expected in hand-decorated tin-glazed ware. The images do not reveal any obvious chips or major repairs, but bidders are advised to inspect the lots closely, particularly the rims, lid fittings and foot rims, before bidding. Potential buyers should also check that the lids sit correctly on each urn. Sets of matching Delft-style urns are popular with collectors and interior enthusiasts, and a group of three in consistent decoration is often more appealing than single examples.
